A Learning Environment in the Urban Core
The project is located within a dense urban setting in Tel Aviv, between Ichilov Hospital and the Dafna complex. It provides a contemporary educational environment for 18 elementary school classes while maintaining a strong relationship with the surrounding neighborhood. The main design challenge was to create a safe and protected learning environment without isolating the school from the urban context around it. The building is organized in a U-shaped configuration around a spacious inner courtyard that preserves existing mature trees. This arrangement brings natural light into the building and creates opportunities for outdoor learning and activity. At ground level, the building engages directly with the street, strengthening the relationship between the school and the surrounding community. The rooftops are used as additional play and activity areas, maximizing the available outdoor space within the compact urban site. The gymnasium is designed for shared use, serving the school during the day and the wider community in the afternoon. The result is a school that functions as both an educational environment and a neighborhood anchor, encouraging curiosity, movement, and interaction while maintaining a strong connection to its urban surroundings.
