A Renewed Cultural Anchor
Located in the heart of the Hatikva neighborhood, Dohl Center is a long-standing cultural institution in Tel Aviv and the city’s second-largest auditorium after Heichal HaTarbut. Originally designed in 1985 by Barhana Architects in the Brutalist style, the building has undergone several transformations over the years, including restoration following damage sustained during a Scud missile strike in the 1991 Gulf War. Over time, the aging building required a comprehensive upgrade to meet contemporary standards of comfort, acoustics, and technology, while preserving its longstanding role as a cultural and artistic hub for the communities of southern Tel Aviv and the surrounding area.
Experience at a New Standard
The renovation encompassed a comprehensive upgrade of the building’s interior and exterior spaces. The design approach focused on creating a warm, community-oriented interior while strengthening the building’s presence within its urban surroundings. At the heart of the project is the main performance hall, extensively treated with high-performance acoustic materials across the walls and ceiling to provide optimal sound quality and viewing conditions. The renovated hall accommodates approximately 620 new, generously sized seats and is equipped with advanced lighting and sound systems. The entrance lobby was also redesigned as a contemporary and welcoming public space, incorporating a new café and providing a natural gathering area before and after performances. The result is a modern and accessible cultural center that offers an enhanced cultural experience while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding neighborhood.
